Would you choose Froot Loops or CBD?

It may sound like a silly question but would you choose Froot Loops or CBD? If you were purely going by availability you would have to choose the cereal because it is on every major grocery store shelf in the country. CBD on the other hand is still unknown by many. In fact, you may be reading this blog and wondering what is CBD? How about FDA approval? Once again you would have to go with Froot Loops, they have been approved by the FDA to be suitable for consumption. So perhaps the simple answer is Froot Loops, but let’s take a closer look.

The Irony

Although it seems like a ridiculous question to even put Froot Loops and CBD in the same category I hope you see after reading this blog the irony of it all. There is a cereal that is being marketed to children, sold by Kellogg’s Cereal company by the millions. It is packed full of ingredients that are toxic, deadly and known to be harmful, yet this cereal is FDA approved and accepted by most Americans. It will most definitely cause a sugar high. On the flip side, you have the cannabis hemp plant that is not a drug, cannot cause a high, not even a sugar high and the government is fighting its existence. It is legal in all 50 states according to the 2014 Farm Bill, but it is still not widely accepted and easily sold in the USA. In fact, this plant is proving to have amazing medicinal properties. Yet, the government is not supporting many clinical trials to test and further prove its benefits.

Taking a closer look at the ingredients

Froot Loops

Yes, it’s true Fruit Loops are available in most grocery stores and kids love the fun colors and sweet flavor. But when you take a closer look, the ingredients are a bit frightening. First of all, the number one ingredient is sugar, that means it has more sugar than anything else. It has 12 grams in just 1/2 cup and an average bowl of cereal is a cup and a half of cereal so that’s 9 teaspoons of sugar! Secondly, it’s packed with artificial food dye’s. These dyes can be found in practically everything we eat from cereal to sports drinks. But these dyes, although approved by the FDA are toxic. They are made from chemicals that come from petroleum, which is the same chemicals that make up gasoline and even tar. If that’s not scary enough these dyes have been linked to brain cancer, nerve-deterioration and hyperactivity to name a few. Food dyes are considered bad enough to be banned in more than five countries including France and the United Kingdom. It also has BHT or butyl hydroxytoluene which is a synthetic compound which basically prevents fats in food from becoming rancid. According to the European Food Safety Authority, BHT has been shown to cause lung and liver tumors, developmental effects, and negatively impact the thyroid in animal studies. It is banned in most European countries and Japan. There are many other ingredients that should cause us to ask questions, but yet these are all FDA approved ingredients and legal in the United States. So are you still voting for the Froot Loops?

CBD Hemp Plant

Cannabidiol (CBD)

Now let’s take a closer look at CBD, which is not FDA approved. Of course it might not be as colorful and you certainly don’t want to eat it with a spoon and milk first thing in the morning. But let’s break it down anyways. CBD is an extract from cannabis, a plant that has grown on this planet naturally for thousands of years. It is even referenced in the bible. The cannabis plant contains more than 80 cannabinoids or plant molecules in which experts agree have medicinal properties. The two most dominant cannabinoids are THC or tetrahydrocannbinol and cannabidiol or CBD. Due to the wants   and desires of man, the cannabis plant has been modified to create the perfect plant. For those who wanted to get “high” they wanted strains that were high in THC. Although cannabis had been used as a medicine and natural remedy for centuries, mans desires for the perfect “high” changed the marketplace. This plant now became known as a drug and was made illegal in every state in the nation. Massive campaigns and millions of dollars had law abiding citizens convinced it could be nothing more than a drug and it needed to be treated as such. CBD on the other hand is not a drug and has no intoxicating effects, but yet in the eyes of most, cannabis was cannabis.

A little girl named Charlotte gave a face to CBD

Then there was a little girl named Charlotte Figi who had a disease that caused her to have approximately 300 seizures a week. It was killing her! Her body was suffering and her parents were desperate. They heard about medicinal marijuana but they lived in a state where it was not legal. Plus they did not want their daughter to be drugged by THC. That is when they heard of cannabis that has very low levels of THC and high levels of CBD. They tried oil from this high CBD cannabis and it helped little Charlotte when nothing else could. To their surprise, not only did it not cause her to get high but it has given her a life. Her story attracted the attention of thousands seeking similar relief. This high quality strain of cannabis that had little THC and high CBD is called hemp. When CBD is extracted from hemp it is legal in all 50 states. Just like Charlotte it is helping thousands of people around the world with a multitude of conditions.

The Choice is Clear

When you compare the facts, the choice is clear. I would much rather give my family CBD supplements rather than a bowl of Froot Loops. Without a shadow of a doubt one is natural, proven to have health benefits and helpful to our bodies. On the contrary, the cereal is packed full of toxic ingredients masked by FDA approval and societies acceptance. Know the facts and see CBD for what it is, a plant that can help people, not a toxic ingredient or drug. So what would you choose Froot Loops or CBD?
